Absurd trailer for ‘Whalefall’ starring Josh Brolin released
The latest trailer for “Whalefall” just might be the most outrageous one movie fans have seen this year. The film features a scuba diver in search of his deceased father, only to find himself swallowed by an 80-foot-long, 60-ton sperm whale. He then has to make a frantic escape, racing against the clock to get out before his oxygen runs out. It’s a tale of a young man, who feels lost and ready to give up, discovering a reason to keep fighting for his life in the most unexpected of situations.

This wild premise, based on a novel by Daniel Krauss, is truly something special. When Brolin’s in a project, I can’t help but be intrigued. His track record is impressive; just about everything he appears in ends up being quite riveting.
So naturally, when the new trailer hit on Wednesday, I had to see it right away. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the concept of someone trying to escape from inside a whale seemed like a unique twist. And no, this is not a punchline; it’s actually the plot.
I mean, who really thinks about the possibility of being swallowed by a whale? It’s a bold storyline, but I’m not sure I can buy it completely. I mean, could anyone actually survive such an experience? There’s really no documented account of this happening, despite an infamous tale from the 1800s about a man named James Bartley who allegedly survived being swallowed. But, as they say, that story has been debunked.
It’s almost laughably absurd, and perhaps that’s what viewers are responding to. People online seem to love it—one commenter suggested it could be the comedy hit of the year. Another chimed in with a playful remark about having a similar experience, saying they escaped a whale with the help of some pepper. It’s all lighthearted fun, and maybe that’s the charm of it.
