The shooter has been identified as Ndiaga Diagne, a naturalized American originally from Senegal who became a citizen about a decade ago. On Sunday, Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) shared information from various sources indicating that the suspect was seen wearing a shirt that said “Property of Allah,” and a copy of the Koran was discovered in his vehicle.

In the early hours of Sunday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation reported to the press that they had uncovered evidence suggesting a possible terrorist link at the scene of a mass shooting at a busy nightclub in Austin. During a news conference, Acting FBI Special Agent in Charge Alex Dolan stated that evidence had been acquired from both the shooter and his car.

While not officially confirmed by law enforcement, one account did verify Ndiaga Diagne’s identity hours after the incident. Reports indicate that Diagne is 53 years old and resides in Pflugerville, Texas. Authorities have yet to release any further details about a motive.

Images alleged to be of the gunman have circulated widely online, showing a man in a sweatshirt that reads “Property of Allah” while holding a rifle. Congressman Roy also shared one of these photos without any commentary.

At least three individuals lost their lives and 14 were injured in the shooting at an entertainment venue along Sixth Street in Austin, according to reports. Police officers arrived within a minute of the initial emergency call and fatally shot the gunman.

Acting Special Agent in Charge Dolan mentioned that the FBI is collaborating with the Austin Police Department to gather and analyze evidence from the scene, including contributions from the FBI’s Evidence Response Team and digital forensics specialists. He noted that, although it’s still early to ascertain the exact motive, there are indications of a possible connection to terrorism with the suspect and his vehicle.

Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis provided information about the unfolding events, stating that the shooting began when the suspect, whose identity was not disclosed at the time, drove a large SUV to a beer garden and opened fire with a pistol. She mentioned that the shooter targeted several patrons outside the bar.

After leaving the scene, the suspect continued down Sixth Avenue until he confronted an Austin police officer, who engaged and killed him very quickly.

Travis County EMS Chief Robert Lucritz confirmed that three people, including the suspect, died at or near the scene, while 17 others were injured. Fourteen of those injured were taken to nearby hospitals, with three listed in critical condition; however, no updates were provided on their status.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement on Sunday, expressing condolences to the families of those affected by the shooting. He noted that he has been in contact with local officials to extend Texas’ full support and ensure that all necessary resources are mobilized.
