Australian news reporter Andrea Crothers slaps self in face during mosquito attack

An Australian news reporter was single-handedly assaulted on live broadcast when he tried to shoo a pesky mosquito away, but ended up punching himself in the face after he missed his step.

Australia’s Today Show reporter Andrea Crothers was on location reporting on Brisbane’s recent floods when an annoying insect landed on her face.

The reporter tried to swat the bloodsucking bug, as any bug-hater would, but his aim was just a little off, and the bug was moving too fast, giving Crothers a pretty nasty slap.

After a moment of shock large enough for the microphone to pick up, Crothers ran away from the cameras, flailing his arms as the bugs continued to attack him.

Although she seemed threatened at the moment, her co-workers thought the situation was quite funny, so they weren’t too worried.

“Something interesting happened today,” host Karl Stefanovic said, according to the newspaper. “One of the great reporters on this show, Andrea Crothers, has been covering the Brisbane floods and has done a fantastic job. I’m doing it,” he said. Video shared by Crothers.

“But it’s very hot and humid up there, it’s rainy, and on top of all these conditions comes the terrible weather. [bugs] Amidst the sound of mosquitoes. So she was confronted on air during a live report. ”

The show’s panel, located inside a temperature-controlled studio, voiced their co-workers’ misfortune.

Stefanovic added: “There are also risks involved in journalists taking it upon themselves to bring this story home.”

The Closer’s viral moment was aired at least four times, including one take played in slow motion.

Today Extra host David Campbell said: “I’d like to see the whole movement slow down, turn around, and pick itself back up again.”

Co-host Sylvia Jeffries added: “We don’t want to mess with Andrea. She’s obviously not going to mess around.” She said, “She can even free herself.”

Crothers, who seemed to have escaped the suicide attack, was unharmed, but I ended up participating By making fun of yourself.

The day after the viral slap, she wore a mesh headpiece during a live broadcast and quipped that it was approved by human resources.

“I’m fine. The HR person said I can wear this as long as I don’t file for workers’ compensation for punching someone in the face,” the reporter said.

“It’s actually very fashionable. It’s like going to the races,” said one of the hosts back in the studio.
