Authorities have determined that 20-year-old Da’Elena McKay committed suicide on May 23. But her father, a Hollywood actor, believes something more sinister happened just a month before his daughter’s 21st birthday.
A man claiming to be Dalyna’s boyfriend called 911 to report he found McKay dead in her apartment, allegedly hanging from a shower curtain rod by a red scarf.
The man said he untied the scarf, lowered her to the ground and began CPR until paramedics arrived, but were unable to revive her.
She was pronounced dead by paramedics just after midnight.
According to the police report, the man, whose name has not been released, told investigators the couple had been arguing around 8 that night and he returned to her apartment to find her dead.
However, D’Elena’s family claims the couple split up in January.
The Los Angeles County coroner ruled her cause of death to be suicide by hanging and said “an autopsy was not necessary as the external examination and circumstances of death were inconclusive,” the Los Angeles County coroner said. Daily Mail.
Dwayne Adway, the Hollywood actor who is Daleena’s father, suspects his daughter’s death was not a suicide.
“I’m trying to put pressure on the LAPD,” Adway said. New York Post “They are determined to maintain the status quo and are not going to investigate this case further. It seems like every single time in LA, black and brown girls are murdered and presented as a suicide.”
The Los Angeles Police Department said the incident was thoroughly investigated.
Daylena’s mother, Elaine McKay, also has doubts about the manner of her daughter’s death.
“Her body tells a different story to what the police are telling us – there are two stab wounds about an inch apart from the front of her body down to her back, bruising and bleeding from those wounds, as well as other bleeding,” McKay told the Daily Mail.
McKay added, “All of these findings that I found because I had no option but to examine her body myself were not listed in the County Coroner’s report. The County Coroner only performed a toxicology test, no autopsy was performed.”
Adway said he had consulted with two forensic pathologists who told him that if she had been strangled, their findings would be similar to those of the medical examiner, and he was opposed to a private autopsy being carried out.
“The issue is not that she was strangled, but how she was strangled,” Adway said. “A pathologist won’t be able to determine that. That’s up to the LAPD, and both my mother and I have gone to them for advice regarding further investigation of this case.”
The distraught mother vehemently disagreed: “This post-mortem is crucial to the case and I cannot understand why the father won’t do it when he knows it is important, because he has the money to pay for it in full and I don’t have ‘my half’. Why would he do this to his daughter and she has just been sitting in the morgue since June 18th?”
McKay maintains that her daughter did not commit suicide.
“My daughter was not suicidal. She had met with a therapist the day before. [they] “The daughter showed no clinical signs of depression or suicide and was vibrant and very excited about life,” Dr McKay said. “She had won a poetry competition, was excited about her 21st birthday and was actively pursuing modelling and acting, following in her parents’ footsteps.”
