Investigators have seized the car of Jake Halo, the father of a seven-month-old boy who is currently missing in Southern California. This action follows discrepancies in the narrative surrounding the child’s disappearance.
On Tuesday, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department documented Halo’s vehicle as part of their inquiry into the case of his son, Emmanuel Halo, according to a report by KTLA.
Both Jake and his wife, Rebecca Halo, have come under scrutiny after conflicting details emerged regarding the alleged kidnapping of Emmanuel. Rebecca claimed that an unknown man took the child from her while she was changing his diaper in a parking lot in Yucaipa last Thursday.
In addition to seizing the car, search warrants have been executed at the family home in Cabazon for phones and computers. A cadaver dog has also been deployed to help search for any signs of the missing infant.
The police have been reviewing a significant amount of surveillance footage from areas tied to the case.
Jake Halo has a history of criminal behavior; he was previously convicted of child abuse in 2023 and is currently on probation. He is also facing new charges related to weapon possession, according to court documents.
Following the child’s disappearance, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department launched a widespread search involving police dogs and helicopters. On Saturday, they revealed that Rebecca had become uncooperative, citing inconsistencies in her account.
This led investigators to update the public to say that “foul play cannot be ruled out” in relation to Emmanuel’s disappearance.
Meanwhile, the Uvalde Foundation for Kids attempted to assist by offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to Emmanuel’s safe return, but retracted their offer just a day later.
Further complications arose as more details regarding Jake’s criminal past surfaced. He had previously been sentenced to six months in prison for child cruelty related to a separate incident in Hemet, California. It remains unclear who the victim in that case was.
While still on probation, Jake faces a hearing next month to determine the impact of a new weapon charge that he accrued last year.
Last June, he was arrested and charged with being a convicted felon in possession of firearms and ammunition and has since pleaded guilty to these charges.
Bobby Chacon, an attorney and former FBI official, noted that the use of cadaver dogs might suggest a more serious turn in the investigation. He expressed concern, stating, “Unfortunately, there’s reason to believe that the child has passed away.”
Authorities describe Emmanuel as wearing a black Nike Onesie. He is approximately 24 inches tall, weighs about 21 pounds, and has brown hair and brown eyes.
