‘Avoid Provoking Tensions’: Trump Administration Sends Strong Message Following Reports of Iran Aiming at US Military Bases

Iran’s Potential Attack on U.S. Bases and Trump’s Response

The U.S. State Department has indicated that Iran might be getting ready to target American military bases, warning that President Trump would respond forcefully if provoked. This announcement came on Saturday after a period of escalating threats between the two nations.

Reports suggest the Islamic Republic is considering options to strike U.S. locations. The tensions heightened after Trump expressed support for Iranian opposition protesters and hinted at possible military intervention. Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has not taken this lightly, leading to further discord.

“As President Trump has repeatedly emphasized, all options are on the table,” the State Department stated. If the Iranian regime attacks U.S. assets, it would “face a very powerful force.” They reiterated a stern warning: “Don’t play games with President Trump.”

Public protests in Iran against the government have surged since late December 2025, with demonstrators reportedly setting fire to mosques and facing violent reprisals. Human rights organizations claim that hundreds of protesters have been killed.

Trump made it clear on January 2 that if Iran harmed peaceful protesters, the U.S. would “come to their rescue.” In a provocative move, Khamenei even shared an image depicting Trump in a coffin. Furthermore, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Berger Qalibaf asserted that all U.S. military centers and ships nearby would be considered “legitimate targets” if the U.S. were to attack.

Nevertheless, Trump seemed to suggest that Iran was heeding his demands as U.S. troops were moved from a vulnerable base in Qatar. He reported that the violence in Iran was “stopping, stopping, stopping” and that there were no plans for executions—information he claimed came from reliable sources.

The tension between the Trump administration and Khamenei’s regime escalated significantly following American airstrikes on several Iranian nuclear facilities in June 2025, amid growing conflict with Israel. Shortly thereafter, a ceasefire agreement was announced.
