‘Baby Jessica’ faces assault charges in domestic matter, shares vague message

Life of woman referred to as 'Baby Jessica' after 1987 well rescue takes a troubling turn

Jessica McClure Morales, famously known as “Baby Jessica,” made headlines in 1987 when she was rescued after a harrowing fall into a well. Recently, she shared a somewhat ambiguous post on social media following her arrest on charges related to domestic disturbance.

In her post, the 40-year-old reflected on happiness, suggesting that it involves letting go of expectations and appreciating life as it is. She wrote, “So relax. Reset. You are enough. Enough is enough. Take a deep breath. Let go and just live in the moment.”

Morales, a mother of two now, was at the center of a major rescue operation when, at just 18 months old, she fell into a narrow well pipe in Midland, Texas, on October 14, 1987. The dramatic rescue lasted 58 hours, capturing the attention of millions.

According to reports, Morales was taken into custody by Midland County authorities on Saturday night. The arrest reportedly stemmed from an incident at her home involving alleged assault and battery with family violence. Afterward, she was released from jail on bond.

Details surrounding the incident are sparse, and officials from the Midland County Sheriff’s Office have not yet commented on the matter.

Recalling her infamous rescue, Jessica fell 22 feet into a well at her aunt’s house, where first responders worked tirelessly to save her. This operation became a media sensation, and Jessica’s story resonated with many at the time.

Morales’s father has described the intense media spotlight surrounding his family as overwhelming. Former Vice President George Bush, along with his wife, and even President Ronald Reagan, reached out during this crisis.
