Barstool Sports Chief Dave Portnoy Raises $1.5M for Family of Murdered Police Officer Jonathan Diller

Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has raised $1.5 million for the family of slain New York police officer Jonathan Diller. He also promised to match the donation.

“Thank you to everyone who donated. We raised 750k. If the funds are matched, the total will be $1.5 million, which will go directly to the family,” Portnoy reportedly wrote on X. . new york post.

Officer Diller, 31, was fatally shot Monday during a traffic stop. A man with a long rap sheet was arrested and charged with the shooting.

The shooting reportedly occurred on March 25 at approximately 5:50 p.m. after Officer Diller approached a vehicle in which Guy Rivera, 34, was a passenger.

Rivera reportedly refused to comply with officers’ commands to get out of his car. As Mr. Diller tried to pull Mr. Rivera from the car, Mr. Rivera allegedly fired at the officer, just below the edge of his bulletproof vest.

Diller was able to disarm Rivera and continued to fight to prevent Rivera from obtaining a firearm again.

The fallen officer’s partner then shot and killed Rivera, who is currently hospitalized in stable condition.

Diller is survived by his wife and young son.
