Bears shock Packers with punt return trickery for touchdown

The Chicago Bears didn't have much to play for other than spoiling the Packers' playoff seeding in Green Bay on Sunday.

But since this is the Bears' final game of the 2024 season, everything was left out, even on special teams.

The first touchdown scored in this game was the result of a punt return ploy by the Bears, in which the Packers caught Josh Blackwell from 94 yards out, even though he didn't even know he had the football. He scored the goal unscathed.

That's because the Bears had two returners near the end zone, and one of them acted like the ball was headed his way.

Meanwhile, Blackwell ran down the left sideline and noticed the ball coming towards him. So when his teammates acted as if they expected him to simply drop the ball and get a touchback, Blackwell caught the ball and began running toward the end zone on the other side of the field.

It wasn't until Blackwell had a ton of blockers in front of him that the Packers realized what was going on, and Green Bay punter Daniel Whelan was the only one who knew what was going on. However, he had no chance to beat Blackwell as he was blocked by two Bears players from scoring the first touchdown of the game.

Blackwell spotted a Bears fan in the back of the end zone and attempted a “Rambo Leap” to pour salt into the Packers' wounds.

The Bears have nothing to worry about other than the NFL Draft as they enter the game at 4-12, but the Packers have a few seeds to keep an eye on in the NFC playoff berth.

The Packers are in the playoffs, but if they win and lose to the Washington Commanders, they will be the sixth seed instead of the seventh and final wild card spot. Washington is playing a close game against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium.

Chicago's 2024 season began with a lot of optimism centered around No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams, with playoff speculation rife as the team started 4-2.

However, the Bears have lost 10 straight games since then, ultimately leading to the firing of head coach Matt Eberflus and general manager Ryan Pauls. They are once again thinking about the future with the aim of continuing to build around Williams.
