Belmont Savings Bank Expands to West Virginia

WHEELING – For the first time in its 141-year history, Belmont Savings Bank is set to make its move across the Ohio River.

According to President and CEO Todd Cover, the bank plans to open its inaugural West Virginia location in December at 591 National Road in Wheeling.

“We are really excited about this. After 141 years, all of which have been spent in Belmont County, we remain committed to that area. However, we believe it’s an appropriate moment to extend our reach into West Virginia,” said Cover. “It’s a significant market, and we’re eager to see how we can serve it. We already have some customers there, but we aim to broaden our influence as much as possible.”

While crossing the river might suggest a separation, Cover emphasized that the Ohio Valley is one cohesive community.

“In my view, the Ohio Valley has always been unified. Though I live in West Virginia, Belmont County has been a primary focus for me over the past 11 years. Historically, I think it’s always been a priority for us,” he remarked. “It’s thrilling to branch out into a new state and see how we can connect with more people.”

Having dedicated 11 years to Belmont Savings Bank, Cover has witnessed significant growth and views this expansion as a crucial new chapter. He believes it provides an excellent chance to reach additional customers and deliver quality banking services.

Cover indicated that during the last 11 years, the bank has been actively acquiring new clients. While plans are not officially cemented, there are aspirations to open further locations in West Virginia soon.

“Nothing’s been finalized just yet, but we’re always on the lookout for expansion opportunities. If the right situation arises, we’re ready to seize it,” Cover noted.

He expressed gratitude for his strong team, which has helped cultivate a genuine community banking atmosphere.

“There will always be a niche in community banking wherever you are. I feel we have identified that niche. We aim to provide top-notch products at competitive prices. We’re trying to communicate that we can offer just about everything the larger banks do, but with more reasonable costs,” Cover said. “What really sets us apart, in my opinion, is our commitment to our customers and communities. We’re here to solve problems, not just to chase profits.”

He underscored that this community-focused culture is what differentiates Belmont Savings Bank from others in the field.

Cover also highlighted that bank staff are available to have candid discussions with residents at no cost.

“Life can be complicated, and we’re not expecting perfection, but our goal is to serve the customer’s best interests, not merely our own,” he concluded.
