Bernice King, the youngest daughter of the late Martin Luther King Jr., expressed her feelings about President Trump’s decision to release a vast amount of documents related to her father’s assassination. She also urged for the release of files connected to notorious financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Her comments came shortly after the National Intelligence Director, Tulsi Gabbard, made public over 230,000 pages of information concerning King’s death in 1968. This included FBI investigations and notes related to the manhunt for James Earl Ray, who was responsible for the shooting.
“I’m going to do the Epstein Files now,” she announced on social platform X, sharing a photo of her father alongside her message.
Bernice King, along with her brother Martin Luther King III, issued a joint statement expressing support for transparency and accountability in history. However, they criticized any attempts to tarnish their father’s legacy or to politicize it. “We strongly condemn attempts to misuse these documents, which undermine our father’s legacy and the achievements of the civil rights movement,” they stated.
This document release comes as the Trump administration is under pressure from lawmakers and his supporters to provide further information related to the Epstein case.
Attorney General Pam Bondy has been at the center of this scrutiny, especially after she concluded that Epstein did not maintain a “client list” and died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial. This conclusion came shortly after releasing a memo co-signed by the DOJ and the FBI.
Trump has occasionally criticized how this situation dominated headlines, prompting questions from his supporters. Last week, he instructed Bondi to release extensive trial testimony related to the case.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has reached out to the lawyers representing Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s associate who was convicted of sex trafficking in 2021, to discuss the possibility of her meeting with prosecutors.
The House Observation Subcommittee has also summoned Maxwell for questioning.
