Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent reportedly threatened to punch Bill Plute, the federal Housing and Finance Director, during a tense encounter at a private dinner with staff and close advisors to President Trump. This information comes from a recent report by Politico.
The incident unfolded with several top economic staff members present at this exclusive dinner, which is a new gathering established by Trump’s social circle.
According to Politico, Bescent confronted Plute after hearing that he was making negative remarks about him to the President.
“Why are you talking to the President about me? Forget you,” Bescent allegedly said, anger apparent in his tone. He added a direct threat, stating, “I’ll punch your face.”
When co-owner of the club attempted to step in, Bescent reportedly suggested they could “go outside” to settle things. Politico also noted that Plute inquired if that meant they were going to have a discussion outside.
Bescent responded, “I’m going to beat your ass.”
Requests for comments were not returned by the Treasury Department, FHFA, or the White House regarding this altercation.
Politico’s account of the exchange mentions one witness and four others who were aware of the situation, but there’s some dispute about who initiated the conversation.
In related news, Pulte’s visibility has increased recently; he has made headlines for accusing Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook of mortgage fraud.
This isn’t the first reported conflict involving Bescent. Earlier this year, first-term advisor Steve Bannon mentioned that Bescent and Elon Musk had a verbal clash that escalated into a physical altercation.
Bescent, in an earlier interview with Miranda Devine from the New York Post, commented on the passionate atmosphere among those working for President Trump, saying, “Everyone is very passionate about doing the best job for President Trump and the Americans.”
