Beverly Vance Reflects on “Hillbilly Elegy” Payout
Beverly Vance, who is the mother of Vice President J.D. Vance, expressed her satisfaction with the financial outcome from the film adaptation of “Hillbilly Elegy.” This feeling comes despite initial efforts by studio executives to offer her a lower payment.
In an appearance on OutKick’s “Tomi Lahren is Fearless,” Beverly discussed the negotiations that took place around the Netflix film, which is based on her son’s bestselling memoir published in 2016.
The movie boasted a notable cast, featuring Amy Adams as Beverly Vance and Glenn Close as her mother.
When asked by host Tomi Lahren if she felt fairly compensated, Beverly responded, “Um, I’m happy with what I made,” indicating she was content with the final result.
Lahren raised a point about Hollywood’s negotiation practices, suggesting that studios often attempt to shortchange individuals when acquiring their life rights. Beverly acknowledged that studio executives did initially propose a lesser amount, but she made it clear that such an offer would not be acceptable to her.
Lahren questioned whether the executives believed Beverly would simply accept a small payment, noting the strong talent associated with the project. Beverly confirmed that was not the case for her.
The conversation also veered toward the possibility of revisiting the family’s story on screen, especially given J.D. Vance’s ascent to the vice presidency. When asked about a potential “Hillbilly Elegy 2,” Beverly suggested it was ultimately her son’s decision, saying, “I think that should probably be J.D.’s decision, since he wrote the book and it’s based on his life.” She added that she’d support whatever he chooses.
Beverly expressed that a sequel could serve as a way to exhibit her ongoing recovery from the addiction issues addressed in the first film. “It would be nice for people to see that I got clean and stayed clean, I think,” she remarked.
