President Joe Biden announced that the United States would send food aid to the Gaza Strip following a United Nations warning that the region’s population was suffering from starvation due to the Israel-Hamas war.

“In the coming days, we will be working with our friends in Jordan and elsewhere to send additional food and supplies by air,” Biden said ahead of a meeting with the Italian prime minister in the Oval Office on Friday.
“Instead of just a few trucks, we need to bring in hundreds of trucks,” he continued. “We’re going to take whatever steps we can.”
In his announcement, Biden reiterated that the United States is working to promote a future ceasefire between Hamas and Israel so that additional aid can be brought to Gaza.
This came after White House officials expressed concern about the possibility of worsening famine, which could affect large parts of Gaza’s population.
Additionally, U.S. Agency for International Development Administrator Samantha Power announced earlier this week that the United States would send $53 million in additional humanitarian aid to Gaza.
“She’s working to expand the channels, the corridors, for aid to flow. We’re going to continue to do that,” White House chief deputy press secretary Olivia Dalton said Thursday. “This morning’s events have highlighted how serious and urgent the humanitarian needs are among Gaza’s civilian population right now.”
According to the Hamas-controlled Gaza Ministry of Health, 115 people were killed and 760 injured in Gaza as a large number of Palestinians waited for humanitarian aid trucks.
However, the Israel Defense Forces said criminals had looted the truckload of aid supplies.
“This morning, a humanitarian aid truck entered northern Gaza and residents surrounded the truck and looted the supplies being delivered,” the Israel Defense Forces said in a post on Twitter on Thursday. Dozens of Gazans were killed or injured as a result of being pushed, trampled, or run over by trucks. ”
