President Joe Biden blamed alternative news outlets for Americans angry about the election results and the economy.
Mr. Biden commented: was interviewed on Tuesday's “Pitchfork Economics” podcast. The podcast host thanked Biden for appearing, but the president continued rambling about the economy.
“Where are you going?” What is the truth? There is no more evidence. ”
“Look, one of the things that worries me the most is, off topic, the numbers, the numbers that you're hearing,” Biden said. “You know the Michigan poll, how people feel about this, 65% to 67% of Americans say their lives are better off than they were before they were elected in the last four years. I think it's gotten better.”
He further said the survey found that only 34% of people had a positive view of the direction of the economy.
“I think it's because the press isn't the way it used to be. They're good people, don't get me wrong,” he continued. “Everything is changing. But the biggest change that's happening is the news organizations. They're not bad. They're still good people. But where are people getting their news? The problem – Don't get hung up on this – if you look at the data – yes, only 5% to 7% of people under 25 read newspapers.”
Biden used the analogy of Richard Nixon sweating during a televised debate with John F. Kennedy.
“We choose the news we want to hear. That's a whole different deal. We have to think about how to deal with this significant technological change,” he explained. “Think about the changes that are happening. Where are we going? What is the truth? There is no evidence anymore. I don't know how it will be resolved. But I think it's a big question. ”
The Democratic Party has been engaged in fierce internal debate about economic issues before and after the election. While many warned that the issue would destroy the Democratic Party, others argued that the economy was doing well and that Americans were not convinced by Republican criticism of inflation and slowing wage growth.
President-elect Donald Trump has slammed Democrats on the issue of inflation, but some on the left have countered that the rate of inflation has slowed and wages have outpaced it as Election Day approached.
Also on Tuesday, President-elect Donald Trump officially won the electorate.
