Biden campaign co-chair knocks president and other Democrats over border

Texas Democratic Rep. Veronica Escobar, a co-chair of Biden’s re-election campaign, is waiting for action on immigration and now supports a Senate border bill that includes billions of dollars in funding for additional migrants. Here are some words for the president and other Democrats: Customs and Border Protection officers, asylum officers, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers.

Escobar supports progressive immigration reform, which he calls “outdated laws and policies,” but said in an interview with Politico that the reason Biden and his party members didn’t move sooner on these reforms is because ” He explained why he believed it was a strategic mistake.

“This is the toughest domestic policy issue we face today,” Escobar told the outlet. “Without a doubt, after decades of Congressional inaction, it is time for the country to weary of inaction on this issue. At the same time, we are seeing mass displacement of people around the world. “The Legislature took advantage of this. “It’s exhausting and exhausting to see such a community of goodwill, a community of such goodwill, where people open their wallets and pantries every day to show hospitality to immigrants, even in El Paso. Is it the feeling that the problem has gotten so bad that something has to happen? ”

Escobar went on to say that Biden has tried various immigration strategies during his time in office and faced criticism from “all sides.” He also said Congressional officials are raising the issue with Biden.

“So Congress very effectively deflected responsibility and said it wasn’t our fault when it actually happened.” she told Politico. “And, to be very frank, I wish Democrats, including the president, had focused on this issue early on. This is what I advocated when we were in the majority. “We have to step up and we have to explain to the people, “Americans, how difficult this is and how multifaceted the solution must be.” There’s no quick fix, no easy Band-Aid. It will take years of public policy and spending to get things to a more manageable state, but “no one wanted to talk about it, and I think that was a strategic mistake on my party’s part.” , that includes everyone.”

The long-awaited $118 billion additional spending deal includes funding for Ukraine, Israel and measures to stem the historic crisis on the southern border, ahead of a Senate vote expected later this week. It was announced late Sunday by senators.

The policy has the support of Senate leadership and the Biden administration, and the funding will provide two U.S. allies ($60 billion to Ukraine and $14 billion to Israel) and about $20 billion to control illegal immigration. It says it is aimed at bipartisan agreement. At the southern border, the number of encounters will reach a record high of 2.4 million in 2023.

“The bipartisan agreement in the Senate is tough and fair and will take meaningful steps to address the challenges our country faces after decades of Congressional inaction,” Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas said in a statement. “There is,” he said.

But the deal also faces significant opposition from Republicans and other conservatives who say it doesn’t do enough to address the border crisis or stop releases into the interior. Some liberal Democrats also oppose the bill, saying it would hurt immigrants seeking asylum.

The package includes border funding and staffing, asylum rules, work permits for immigrants, expanded legal immigration routes, and a “border emergency authority.”

The White House did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
