President Biden’s reelection campaign is set to launch a “Black Voters for Biden-Harris” drive on Wednesday at a majority-black college in Philadelphia.
President Harris and the Vice President will visit Girard College for a campaign rally in support of the announcement, accompanied by black leaders including Maryland Governor Wes Moore (D), Biden campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond and Congressional Black Caucus Chairman Steven Horsford (D-Nevada).
The effort, according to the campaign, will involve an eight-figure investment and will also include a summer effort to increase outreach to Black voters ahead of the election and partner with Black organizations to strengthen voter protections.
He also plans to work with black-owned media and, through surrogates, visit battleground states over the weekend, including a black church in Atlanta, a block party in Nevada and a barber shop in Michigan.
“This coalition and our newly announced summer outreach and engagement program mark the next phase of our campaign’s ongoing historic investment in outreach to Black voters, the backbone of the Biden-Harris coalition,” Quentin Fulks, the campaign’s chief deputy executive director, said in a statement.
The campaign is also prepared to argue that former President Trump’s campaign has no plans to engage with black voters. The campaign aired two television and radio ads last week targeting claims about Trump’s record with black Americans and blasting his comments about them.
At Wednesday’s rally, Biden and Harris will be introduced by first-generation Sudanese American Lina Mayen and small business owner Robert N. C. Nix. Biden will then appear at a small business event at the Philadelphia Black Chamber of Commerce during his stay in Philadelphia.
