On HBO’s “Real Time” broadcast Friday, host Bill Maher said President Joe Biden is pretending that new laws are needed to fix the border, saying, “The president is He already has the current law.”
“Republicans are acting like they want to fix this problem, but Democrats have said their bluff,” Maher said. A lot of senators who are pretty conservative are saying this is as good a deal as they can get. They don’t want it because they don’t want this problem to be resolved. They don’t want it to happen. Because we need that as an issue.”
Afterward, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu (R) said, “Joe Biden has a lot of power to change a lot of policies and influence immigration issues.”
Maher replied: That’s my other thing — what I was going to say is, part two of the acting is Joe Biden saying, you know what? Please make a new law. New law? Why not? The president can fix this. He already has the current law. This is completely ridiculous. We need a paper from Congress to address border issues. No, you already have it.
Maher added that President Obama could deport people under current immigration law.
