Biden Discusses Trump’s Campaign and Cognitive Ability
In a recent interview, former President Joe Biden asserted that he hasn’t experienced cognitive decline while in office and criticized former President Donald Trump’s campaign, attributing its success to sexism.
Biden responded to a question about why he thought former Vice President Kamala Harris lost the presidential election, claiming he wasn’t shocked by the outcome. He pointed out that Harris was, in fact, the “most qualified” candidate for president. However, he suggested that the narrative pushed by Trump’s campaign implied Harris was unqualified due to her mixed-race background.
“They took sexist routes in their campaign, and I wasn’t taken aback,” he stated. “It was all about ‘This is a woman. She is this. She is that.’ I felt the campaign consistently undermined the belief that women, especially women of mixed races, can lead the country.”
During another segment of the show, which has garnered a lot of attention, Biden was asked about allegations of declining cognitive function, especially during his final year in office. There have been moments where he appeared unsteady, like going up stairs or falling from his bike.
Biden quickly dismissed these concerns, saying, “That’s incorrect. There’s nothing wrong.” He pivoted to critique Trump’s presidency, expressing that the aftermath of Trump’s first term was extremely challenging. “What did you leave behind? We faced a pandemic where over a million people died due to the incompetence of the previous administration,” he remarked.
After addressing criticisms and discussing the formidable challenges he faced, Biden’s wife, Jill, jumped in to support him. She noted that people who write critical books about her husband likely haven’t seen the dedication he exhibited while in office.
“While I was in bed, he was on the phone, reading briefings, working constantly. Being president isn’t just a job; it’s a lifestyle,” she explained.
Biden expressed gratitude for his wife’s unwavering support, emphasizing how much she means to him. “It’s worth coming on the show for that,” he said, clearly appreciative of her words.
