President Biden is scheduled to speak in North Carolina Thursday afternoon, where he is expected to announce $82 million in new investments to connect homes and businesses in the state to high-speed internet.
Biden is expected to travel to the Raleigh-Durham area, a critical battleground state, to make the announcement, along with Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper. The funding comes from the American Rescue Plan, the coronavirus relief package Biden signed into law in 2021, and aims to connect 16,000 more homes and businesses in North Carolina.
The investment will also create manufacturing and construction jobs to produce “American-made fiber optic cables that will build the nation's internet infrastructure,” according to a White House fact sheet.
Biden's comments will emphasize his so-called Bidennomics agenda, his economic plan to build the economy from the bottom up and the middle out.
The event is scheduled for 2:15pm ET.
