Biden granted just one hand-signed pardon in his last actions, and it was the most controversial one.

In the final weeks of his administration, former President Joe Biden issued just one pardon, which has sparked considerable debate.

The Justice Department is examining a list of individuals pardoned by Biden, raising questions about the use of an autopen for signatures and concerns regarding his mental clarity during his last months in office.

Biden took the opportunity in his last week to describe his presidency as one marked by compassion, noting he had granted amnesty to over 1,500 individuals.

Among those pardoned were family members, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and General Mark Milley, as well as staff involved in the House Committee’s January 6th investigation.

Interestingly, Biden personally signed the pardon for his son, Hunter, after months of asserting he wouldn’t. This came after Hunter faced legal troubles, including three felony gun charges and allegations of tax evasion totaling over $1.4 million.

Hunter Biden unexpectedly entered a guilty plea before his trial. In December 2024, his father announced an amnesty covering offenses committed between January 1, 2014, and December 1, 2024.

“From day one, I promised not to interfere with the Department of Justice,” Biden stated, despite recognizing the challenges his son faced.

He expressed frustration over what he termed a relentless campaign against Hunter. “They tried to destroy him, and it feels like this isn’t over,” he added.

However, special prosecutor David Weiss pushed back against Biden’s portrayal of the investigation, calling it misleading and accusing the former president of politicizing the legal proceedings.

Weiss characterized Biden’s comments as “false” and argued that other presidents who have pardoned family members didn’t politicize their decisions in this way.

In addressing the implications of Biden’s amnesty, Weiss stated that it could complicate any potential future legal decisions but refrained from commenting on whether new charges would be appropriate.

“Attacking prosecutors undermines public trust in the justice system,” Weiss noted, emphasizing the integrity of the Department of Justice officials.

Concerns over Biden’s autopen usage are under scrutiny from Attorney General Pam Bondi. Former President Trump has called for an investigation into whether Biden’s aides manipulated public perception regarding his cognitive abilities.

Trump remarked on the significant powers associated with a president’s signature, suggesting that recent actions reveal attempts to hide Biden’s mental decline, using autopen signatures as a means to carry out presidential duties.

“This is potentially one of the gravest scandals in American history. It appears people were shielding the public from understanding the true state of affairs,” he stated.

He contended that Biden’s cognitive issues were notably worse behind closed doors, alleging that Biden’s advisors engaged in measures to limit his interactions and public appearances to obscure his abilities.
