The U.S. Secret Service will stop providing protection to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. starting Monday after he recently stopped campaigning to support former President Donald Trump.
The Biden-Harris administration has repeatedly denied RFK Jr.’s requests for Secret Service protection, despite the fact that his father, Robert F. Kennedy, and uncle, former President John F. Kennedy, were both assassinated.
“With or without it, I’m going to do what I’m going to do.”
After rejecting five requests, the federal government agreed to provide Secret Service protection to RFK Jr. following the July assassination attempt on Trump. Trump has vowed to give the independent candidate Receive security.
“In light of the events of this weekend, the President has directed me to work with the Secret Service to provide protection for Robert Kennedy Jr.,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in a statement a few days after the shooting.
But the protection didn’t last long. On Friday, RFK Jr. addressed supporters and immediately Stop election campaigning And throw Support for Trump.
“In my heart, I no longer believe that I have a realistic path to winning the election in the face of this relentless, systematic censorship and control of the media,” said RFK Jr. “And so I cannot in good conscience ask my staff and volunteers to continue working long hours, or ask my donors to continue giving, when I cannot honestly tell them that I have a real path to the White House.”
In a speech on Friday, RFK Jr. said he plans to, and has already begun, stopping campaign stops in key battleground states that could sway votes away from Trump and help Harris win. Voters in Republican and Democratic states will still see independent candidates’ names on their ballots, he noted.
Secret Service Protection withdrawn Just a few days later, RFK Jr.’s campaign confirmed this.
RFK Jr. said Glenn Beck “Whether it happens or not, I’m going to do what I have to do,” he said Monday morning.
“My life is in God’s hands,” he added.
He said the Secret Service’s initial refusal to provide protection was “alarming for our country” and called it “part of the weaponization of the institution, the politicization of the institution.”
Asked about his decision to support Trump, RFK Jr. said the two candidates found common ground in their shared goals of ending the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East, protecting free speech and solving chronic diseases.
President Trump has said he would consider including RFK Jr. in his Cabinet, but it is not yet clear what position he would take.
last week, Donald Trump Jr. told Glenn Beck “He could be a really great asset” to his father’s administration, RFK Jr. said.
“I think the idea of giving him some kind of role in some big, three-letter organization and letting him disrupt it is a great idea,” he said. “I think that’s what we need to do.”
