Former President Joe Biden resigned back in January. Still, questions regarding his mental clarity and health persist after a recent audio release of an interview with former special advisor Robert Huar. The conversation touches on Biden’s cancer diagnosis and the various actions he took in his last days in office.
Biden’s Speech and Key Audio Leaks
Here’s a look at the ongoing investigations related to the former president and his administration.
Justice Department Scrutiny of Biden’s Pardons
During his final weeks as president, Biden granted pardons to more than 1,500 individuals, a move that has been described as one of the most significant actions taken by any U.S. president.
The Department of Justice is currently examining the pardons issued by Biden, particularly focusing on the use of autopens, which may have been employed to automatically sign documents.
DOJ pardon attorney Ed Martin is reviewing those pardons granted during Biden’s last week in office, which includes ones for his son, Hunter Biden, as well as a preemptive pardon for Dr. Anthony Fauci.
The Sole Handwritten Pardon and Its Controversy
Among them, Biden personally signed one pardon for Hunter, which has become highly contentious.
Hunter Biden faced three felony gun charges during an investigation led by special advisor David Weiss. He was also implicated in federal tax crimes, allegedly owing over $1.4 million in taxes.
Before going to trial, Hunter entered a surprising guilty plea.
In December 2024, Biden announced a blanket amnesty that applied to crimes committed by Hunter from January 1, 2014, to December 1, 2024.
The former president claimed, “From day one, I promised I wouldn’t interfere with the Justice Department’s decisions. I held to that, even when it was tough to watch my son face accusations that felt targeted.”
Biden’s Controversial Decision
Biden expressed that he believed there was a concerted effort to hurt Hunter. “For five years, I remained composed amid a torrent of attacks and selective prosecutions. This won’t end here,” he noted.
Investigation into Alleged Concealment of Biden’s Mental Health
Speaker James Comer (R-KY) is spearheading an investigation into claims that Biden’s inner circle may have intentionally concealed information about his mental health issues.
The inquiry is particularly focused on whether his team conspired to protect the image of the former president, possibly through the autopen signatures.
Key Witnesses for the Mental Health Investigation
Four former aides of Biden have agreed to testify, including key members from his inner circle.
Testimonies are scheduled, with one aide set to appear before the House Oversight Committee on June 24, followed by others on different dates.
Silence Around Cognitive Decline
Interestingly, Biden’s former White House doctor, Kevin O’Connor, declined an invitation for a scheduled interview, raising further questions. Comer has since summoned O’Connor to testify.
Investigation into Biden’s Cancer Diagnosis
In May, Biden was diagnosed with a serious form of prostate cancer after discovering cancerous nodules during routine checks.
A statement from Biden’s team described the diagnosis as a Gleason score of 9, indicating aggressive cancer with metastasis to the bone.
This form of cancer is hormone-sensitive, and the medical team is currently assessing treatment options.
Biden’s Health History
Previously, while in office, Biden had skin lesions removed and has often referenced his community’s health issues related to pollution.
However, the House Oversight Committee has expanded its inquiry into when Biden was made aware of his cancer diagnosis.
Potential Cover-up Claims
Comer mentioned that there’s evidence hinting at a possible cover-up regarding Biden’s cancer over the years.
O’Connor, who had previously provided clean health reports for Biden, has been summoned as the investigation deepens.
