president joe biden released Details have emerged from the investigation into the brutal terrorist attack that claimed the lives of 15 people in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Biden spoke Thursday from the White House about Shamsuddin Jabbar, the terror suspect believed to be in possession of a “remote detonator” for the explosives found in the French Quarter.
“The attacker turned out to be the same person who planted the explosives in the ice cooler.”
The president also reiterated official statements that the suspect was acting alone.
“There is no information that anyone else was involved in the attack,” he said. “They established that he was the same person who planted explosives in ice coolers at two locations near the French Quarter hours before the attacker drove into the crowd. He determined that he had a remote detonator in his car and detonated those two ice boxes. ”
The FBI and ATF said the explosives were found inside an ice chest and safely disposed of. Mr. Jabbar was killed in a gunfight with police. About 37 other people were taken to hospital for treatment.
Biden went on to say he has asked law enforcement officials to speed up the investigation into whether the New Orleans attack was connected to the Cybertruck explosion in front of the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas.
“At this point, I've just been briefed,” Biden added. “So far, we have found no evidence of such a link. I have instructed them to continue their investigation.”
An earlier FBI press conference presented evidence of social media posts that said Islamist terrorism was a motive for the suspect's actions. So far, they have said there is no evidence that ISIS ordered the attack, only that terrorism was a motive for the attackers.
Jabbar was born in Texas and served in the U.S. Army. He was working as a real estate agent and had recently fallen into financial difficulties.
“As far as I know, he was a Muslim most of his life,” the suspect's brother Abdul told the New York Times. “What he did is not representative of Islam. This is not a religion, it is a type of radicalization.”
