Joe Biden signed a new law designating the bald eagle as our national bird.

On Christmas Eve, the White House announced that the president signed legislation that unanimously passed Congress and officially designates the bald eagle as the national bird of the United States.

The passed bill would amend Title 36, U.S.C.

This famous bird has been featured on the coat of arms of the United States since 1782. There is even a national holiday dedicated to the bird, and in 1940 Congress passed the Bald Eagle Protection Act.

But until Tuesday, it wasn't technically given the title of “national bird.”
