President Joe Biden appeared almost happy in his first speech since Vice President Kamala Harris's crushing election loss.
Biden spoke for about 10 minutes Thursday from the White House, trying to encourage his supporters to keep fighting despite his disappointing failure to defeat President-elect Donald Trump.
“The America of your dreams is calling you to rise up. It's the story of America for more than 240 years and forevermore.”
“In a democracy, the will of the people always prevails,” Biden said.
Biden claimed to have given the United States “the strongest economy in the world” and reassured supporters that his policies will continue to help Americans over the next decade. Some viewers noted that Biden looked like almost happy Sometimes during speeches.
He said he spoke with President Trump and congratulated him on the election. He also pledged to ensure a “peaceful and orderly” transition of power.
He also encouraged Americans to avoid divisiveness and defended the integrity of elections.
“I've said it many times: You can't love your country only when you win. You can't love your neighbor only when you agree. I hope we can, regardless of who you vote for. “What we're doing is not looking at other people's opinions as adversaries, but as fellow Americans, let's lower the temperature,” Biden said.
“Setbacks are inevitable, but giving up is not an option,” he said before repeating the line for emphasis.
“We all get knocked down sometimes. But, as the Father says, the measure of our humanity is how quickly we get back up. Remember, defeat means we are defeated.” It doesn’t mean anything,” he continued. “We lost this battle. The America of your dreams is calling you to rise up. That is the story of America for more than 240 years.”
Now that some media outlets have called out electoral votes in Arizona and Nevada, Mr. Trump appears to have won 312 electoral votes, while Ms. Harris has only 226.
“America's experiment continues,” Biden said.
