A new national poll shows President Biden and former President Donald Trump are essentially unanimous in their likely rematch in the November election.
But an NPR/PBS NewsHour poll released Wednesday shows the president’s advantage over Trump increases if the former president is convicted.
Polls also show that Biden is essentially tied with former United Nations ambassador and former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley in a hypothetical general election showdown.

According to a poll conducted from January 29 to February, among registered voters nationwide, Mr. Biden would lead Mr. Trump 48% to 47% if the presidential election were held today, and 5% were confident. I don’t expect it to last.
The latest national polling average compiled by Real Clear Politics shows the former president leading the White House incumbent by just 1.7 points on questions about the race between Biden and Trump. There is.

But if Trump is convicted of the criminal charges, the latest Marist poll shows Biden would widen his lead over the former president by 6 points (51% to 45%). Trump made history last year as the first former or current president to be charged with a crime. But his four indictments, including charges that he tried to overturn his loss to Biden in the 2020 presidential election, have only increased his support among Republican voters.

Trump is running for the White House for the third consecutive year and is a strong front-runner for the Republican nomination. He won the first two races on the Republican nomination calendar, the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary, by double-digit margins.
