President Joe Biden on Saturday named 19 recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, including former Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and billionaire globalist George Soros.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian award awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to “the prosperity, values, security, world peace, or other important social, public, or personal endeavors of the United States.” It's an honor. According to Go to the White House press release.
“President Biden believes that great leaders uphold their beliefs, give everyone a fair chance, and prioritize civility above all else,” the press release reads.
As Biden nears the end of his presidential term, he honored former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming with the Presidential Citizens Medal on Friday.
Biden praises Clinton for “making history time and time again” and praises Soros' “global efforts” to “strengthen democracy, human rights, education and social justice” around the world did.
“Secretary Clinton has made history multiple times over her decades in public service, including as the first First Lady elected to the United States Senate,” the press release said. “After serving as Secretary of State, she became the first woman to be nominated for president by a major political party in the United States.”
“George Soros is an investor, philanthropist, and founder of the Open Society Foundations,” the press release reads. “Soros has focused on global efforts to strengthen democracy, human rights, education, and social justice through a network of foundations, partners, and projects in more than 120 countries.”
As Biden nears the end of his presidential term, he honored former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming with the Presidential Citizens Medal on Friday. Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, has been controversial throughout her career for voting to impeach then-President Donald Trump and supporting Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election.
Other honorees include actors, athletes, advocates, and more.
Among the philanthropists are celebrity chef Jose Andrés, the late civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer, technology founder and LGBTQ advocate Tim Gill, and billionaire co-founder David Gill. Includes M. Rubenstein and others. Biden has also awarded medals to former politicians, including the late Secretary of Defense Ash Carter, the late U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, and former Michigan Governor and Housing Secretary George W. Romney.
Also honored are pop culture luminaries such as five-time NBA champion Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Argentine soccer player Lionel Messi, scientist and television personality Bill Nighy, and primate researcher Jane Goodall. It is scheduled to be done. Creators such as rock musician Bono, actors Michael J. Fox and Denzel Washington, and film director George Stevens Jr. will also receive medals, as will fashion icons Ralph Lauren and Anna Wintour.
The award presentation will take place on Saturday.
