Biden to double down on Jan. 6 attacks on Trump as ‘Bidenomics’ message deflates

President Biden's campaign will double down on January 6-related attacks on former President Trump in the coming weeks, following the poor performance of the White House's “Bidenomics” message.

Biden is set to launch a new wave of attacks on Friday, labeling Trump as a threat to democracy in a speech in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. According to Axios, campaign officials emphasized the location's connection to George Washington and President Trump's attempts to cling to power, and that it goes against the president's wishes to step down.

“For the past three years, MAGA Republicans haven't run away from the big lie. They've doubled down,” Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez told NBC News.

Biden has given speeches on the Jan. 6 anniversary in both 2022 and 2023, but in both cases he avoided mentioning Trump. He is expected to take a different approach on Friday.

The Biden campaign is reflecting that axis with a new ad focused on President Trump and January 6th.

“The question now for all of us is what we will do to preserve our democracy,” Biden says in the ad. “History is watching. The world is watching. And most importantly, our children and grandchildren will be holding us accountable.”

“This ad serves as a very real reminder that this election could decide the very fate of American democracy,” Rodriguez told reporters.

The message switch comes as the White House's “Bidenomics” campaign resonates with voters as inflation continues to rise.

Mr. Biden stopped using the term in his speeches by the end of November after criticism from within his own party.

“Whoever came up with the slogan Bidennomics should be fired,” an anonymous Democratic strategist told NBC at the time. “This is probably the worst message you can imagine.”
