President Biden on Friday touted his administration's negotiations with the Senate to address the crisis at the southern border, even though House Speaker Mike Johnson said on the floor that such a bill would be “dead on arrival.” It seems like I did.

In a statement released by the White House, Biden called on Congress to support a bipartisan policy linking border security measures to aid to Ukraine. He said the terms he negotiated with senators would be the “toughest and fairest” reforms ever to secure the border.

“It would give him new emergency powers as president to close the border in case of congestion,” he said. “If given that authority, I would exercise it the day I signed the bill.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R) said the bill being negotiated between President Biden and the Senate would be “dead on arrival” in the House.

Hours earlier, Prime Minister Johnson sent a letter to his colleagues in the Senate saying that if local Republicans felt they were not doing enough to deal with the record number of illegal immigrants entering Ukraine, they would be willing to move forward on border issues and support for Ukraine. He added, “Today, I emphasize that House Republicans will firmly oppose any new policy proposals from the White House or the Senate that further encourage illegal aliens to violate our laws.” Ta.

“For everyone who wants stronger border controls, this is the way to get it done,” Biden said. “If you are serious about the border crisis, pass a bipartisan bill and I will sign it.”
