On Tuesday’s NBC show “MTP Now,” Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) said President Joe Biden’s debate performance was “not normal, it was much worse than a bad night.” He added, “I want Joe Biden to be Joe Biden, to show us what he did in North Carolina, what he did at the Supreme Court press conference,” and “I want to be reassured that Joe Biden is capable of doing the job, he wants to do the job, and he can reassure the American people.” [of] It’s both.”
“What we saw in the debate last week, we all saw it. This was not normal, this looked much worse than just a bad night. And if we are to make it clear that that was absolutely all there was to it, then we have to do two things. First, we start with family therapy sessions, which haven’t happened. We need the White House to have conversations with Congress, with Democrats and other Democratic leaders around the country. That hasn’t happened, and it needs to be done. Second, we need a plan of action for Joe Biden to be Joe Biden, showing what he did in North Carolina, what he did in that press conference about the Supreme Court decision on immunity. Presidential immunity. That’s the Joe Biden that we know. So we’re going to need to spend a lot of time reassuring the public that that was exceptional, that it’s not characteristic of an 81-year-old president.”
He added: “I’m not going to throw Joe Biden out there for a 90-minute debate, but I want to make sure that Joe Biden is capable of doing the job, he wants to do the job, and he can reassure the public.” [of] It’s both.”
