President Joe Biden’s social media post referred to former President Donald Trump as a “dictator” minutes before 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to assassinate him.

The post was published at 6 p.m. on Saturday, minutes before Crooks, from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, attempted to assassinate President Trump during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The first reports that Trump had been shot came at 6:12 p.m. on Saturday.
While speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania, gunfire broke out, hitting the 45th president in the ear with one bullet, injuring him and forcing him to be rushed off the stage by the US Secret Service.

Senator J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) responded to the assassination attempt on President Trump by saying, “Today’s incident is not just an isolated incident.”
“The Biden campaign’s central premise is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs. This rhetoric led directly to the assassination attempt on President Trump,” Vance added.

Secret Service veteran Dan Bongino told X in an interview after the assassination attempt, “There’s no question that USSS Director Kim Cheatle repeatedly refused requests to increase security around President Trump, despite knowing the threat level was catastrophic.”
Bongino called on Cheatle to resign.

Notably, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Mississippi), who was the leader of then-Speaker Rep. Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) now-disbanded January 6th Select Committee, introduced a bill in April 2024 targeting President Trump and stripping him of Secret Service protection if he was convicted.
