Biden’s upcoming physical exam will not include a cognitive test, White House says

The White House confirmed Monday that President Biden will not undergo cognitive testing as part of his upcoming physical exam.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Biden’s doctor, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, doesn’t think cognitive tests are necessary. She said O’Connor believes Biden is “proving his cognitive abilities every day.” [in] how he acts and thinks. ”

Reporters pressed Jean-Pierre on the issue following last week’s report from special counsel Robert Hur, which found that Biden had significant memory problems.

“Does the White House think it’s a legitimate idea for the president to undergo cognitive testing as part of his medical exam?” a reporter asked.

“I would like to tell you something that Dr. O’Connor said to me about a year ago. [Biden’s physical] has been released,” replied M. Jean-Pierre defended Biden even more vigorously as reporters continued to press the topic. She said she has known Biden for more than a decade and continues to find him “sharp” and “on the ball.”

“When we meet with him or his staff, he always pushes us around and tries to get more information. That’s been my experience with this president,” she said.

Recent polls show that Biden’s age is a major issue not only for ordinary Americans but also for a majority of Democrats. An ABC/Ipsos poll on Sunday found that 86% of Americans think Biden is too old to serve another term, including 73% of Democrats.
