'Big Bang' Star Mayim Bialik Shares Disturbing Side Effects from Using GLP-1 Weight Loss Medication

Mayim Bialik, known for her role in Big Bang Theory, recently shared her alarming experience following a single dose of the widely used weight loss medication, GLP-1.

In an article titled “My GLP-1 Nightmare” for Free Press, Bialik opened up about her terrifying ordeal.

The 50-year-old actress revealed that she has battled with her weight throughout her adult life, which was particularly challenging as someone in the public eye. At one point, her doctor suggested that GLP-1 might help ease some of the issues she’s faced for years.

Having been diagnosed with Graves’ disease at 23, Bialik later faced additional health challenges including collagen disease and mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), among others.

She explained that she chose to try GLP-1 after multiple doctors indicated that it could help reduce systemic inflammation linked to her autoimmune conditions.

Before taking GLP-1, she had tried various other treatments, but found little relief. She thought this might be another avenue to explore. However, rather than offering a simple solution, her first dose led to overwhelming changes in her life.

“After just one injection of the lowest dose, I definitely experienced side effects,” she recounted. “I dealt with explosive, uncontrollable diarrhea and sulfuric burps that made me hesitant to speak in public. Eating or drinking triggered uncontrollable sneezing, a phenomenon some call snatchiation.”

She described feeling flu-like symptoms—cramping, bloating, and overall fatigue. There were moments when even getting to the bathroom felt impossible, leading to repeated incidents of severe diarrhea.

Eventually, Bialik found herself unable to keep anything down, necessitating an intravenous drip to stay hydrated.

“For the first couple of days, I only managed to eat a cup of rice and half a banana,” she noted, adding that electrolyte drinks were also impossible to stomach.

“It was like everything had turned on me, and I felt weak and drained,” she explained. “I stayed in touch with my prescriber, and when I struggled to keep even water down, a nurse had to come administer an IV.”

Bialik was surprised to learn that her reactions weren’t uncommon, as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are typical side effects of the drug.

Despite this, she recognized the allure of quick weight loss, admitting that it’s easy to see why many would endure side effects to achieve their goals.

Yet, she concluded that GLP-1 wasn’t the answer for her. “My body made its stance clear, and after years of disregarding it, I finally began to listen.”

Later, her gastroenterologist cautioned her that medications like these demand serious consideration, stressing that her intense reaction was not rare.

“These drugs can be incredibly harmful and should only be used for specific medical circumstances, like severe obesity,” Bialik remarked. “I didn’t fit that requirement. My doctor warned me to expect ongoing bouts of diarrhea and alternating constipation for several weeks.”

She left the consultation feeling reassured that her symptoms were legitimate and induced by the medication, though anxious about the challenges ahead.

“As I caught a glimpse of myself driving home, I felt unexpectedly bold,” she reflected. “I noticed that my chin didn’t seem to hide another beneath it, and my cheekbones were more visible.”

Bialik smiled at her reflection, feeling a sense of lightness as her skirt no longer clung tightly around her waist.
