Bill Ackman's pick-up line met with harsh criticism online

Billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman’s recent dating advice for young men has caught fire online, leading to a flood of mockery regarding his unusual pick-up lines.

Ackman, who heads Pershing Square Capital Management and is known for supporting specific political causes, expressed concerns about younger men struggling to connect with women in social settings due to the influence of internet culture.

“I wanted to share some lines I used back in the day when trying to meet someone I liked. I often asked, ‘Can I meet you?’ before delving into a deeper conversation,” he mentioned in a post on Saturday.

He confidently stated that this pick-up line “rarely elicited a no,” emphasizing that “a blend of good grammar and politeness made it work wonders.”

“Just my two cents from a happily married guy worried about our future generations and their replacement rates.”

The online community quickly transformed Ackman’s dating tip into memes, pointing out the questionable efficacy of pick-up lines through numerous posts.

One user shared a picture of comedian Shane Gillis with the caption, “Can I meet you?”

Another meme featured a young woman looking visibly unimpressed at a party, paired with Ackman’s advice.

In one instance, a user depicted an awkward interaction caught on camera at a sports game, where a woman, palms up, indicated she didn’t want to sit next to a man.

Someone else contrasted Ackman’s line with a meme juxtaposing a tall hedge fund billionaire next to a smiling actress Sydney Sweeney, while a shorter banker’s photo appeared with Sweeney grimacing.

Another user shared a Hinge screenshot where the phrase “Can I meet you?” was met with silence after messaging five women.

In a humorous twist, a separate post added the caption “Life after you say, ‘Can I meet you?'” to a video showing a man inundated with women asking for photos.

One more meme featured a man left lonely in a party corner, surrounded by women who seemed to ignore him, again pointing to the challenges of meeting people.
