Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was shot while speaking at Utah Valley University on September 10, prompting Wayne Robinson, owner of a local Steak ‘n Shake in Rome, Georgia, to take action.
Robinson expressed his devastation over Kirk’s death, stating he had always admired him, particularly for how he engaged with students on campus. He reflected on how Kirk touched many lives, including his own, and felt heavy-hearted after the incident.
In the wake of the tragedy, Robinson swiftly created a tribute. He informed his marketing partner of his intention to honor Kirk and soon erected a billboard stating, “Charlie Kirk, 1993-2025.” Not long after, the billboard went viral and received substantial engagement on social media.
“I don’t think he ever thought of any reaction that would have happened in his wildest dreams after he was assassinated.”
Robinson noted that there had been an overwhelming local response, with thousands of comments expressing support and condolences. People from the surrounding area began visiting his restaurant to pay homage to Kirk.
Interestingly, Sen. Marjorie Taylor Greene shared the billboard on her social media, which inspired individuals nationwide to support the chain due to the tribute. Many customers reported they made it a point to dine at the restaurant after seeing the sign.
“We’ll eat steak ‘n shakes because we installed a Charlie Kirk Billboard,” one fan stated. Robinson shared that calls flooded in from across the U.S., with individuals reaching out to express gratitude for the tribute.
The corporate office of Steak ‘n Shake later contacted Robinson, commending his initiative and inquiring about replicating the tribute elsewhere. Robinson remains in mourning but believes that Kirk’s legacy can be felt through the positive impact he had on so many.
Robinson remarked, “He started a much-needed revival across the country.” He suggested that Kirk could not have foreseen the outpouring of support and reactions that followed his murder. The billboard represents just one of many tributes to Kirk, reflecting his influence and the way he changed many hearts during his life.
