Billionaire investor warns over impending financial crisis: ‘Nobody’ knows when it will hit

Omega Family Office's Leon Cooperman has warned that the US is headed for a financial crisis, insisting that “nobody” knows when it will happen.

Cooperman issued a stark warning about the current state of the US economy, calling the country's “massive debt” “out of control” and slamming both Republicans and Democrats for what is currently happening within the system. ing.

“We have government guidance in a crisis,” he told Fox Business' Liz Claman during an appearance on “The Claman Countdown” on Wednesday.

“We're living too comfortably with our policies right now,” Cooperman said. “In a crisis, we'll have help.”

The Omega Family Office chairman admitted the impending crisis was “influencing” his thinking and revealed he was avoiding “overvalued” US Treasuries. He added that the stock market is “extraordinarily polarized.”

The fuse of America's debt bomb has been cut short.

Despite the current economic situation, the Federal Reserve has indicated that a rate cut may be possible in 2024.

“I think the people who want six rate cuts are on some kind of substance,” Cooperman said, insisting they would be “lucky” to see three rate cuts.

“I don't think interest rates in the 10-year sector are high enough, and given everything I see: the speculative nature of the stock market, the level of the market itself, and real returns. “That would suggest to me that interest rates are actually not that high. That's a real challenge for the market,” he explained.

When will the Federal Reserve start cutting interest rates?

Cooperman argues that the market is experiencing a bear market.

He said he looks for “stocks that have fallen significantly where they have cheap stock prices, corporate buyback programs that support the low stock prices, and where you are paying to wait.”

“I don't think the stock market will fall from this level for a long time,” Cooperman said.
