A bipartisan group of senators is hosting families of American and Israeli hostages at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, commemorating more than 100 days since the Oct. 7, 2023, attack.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) and Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) will be at the Capitol on Wednesday for a press conference calling for continued U.S. support on Sunday. announced that they would be welcoming a family. Monday marks 100 days since the surprise attack on Israel's southern border by Hamas, the US-designated terrorist organization that controls the Gaza Strip. This surprise attack left approximately 1,200 Israelis dead and approximately 250 hostages. Israel estimates more than 130 hostages still remain in the Gaza Strip after the United States helped broker a temporary ceasefire and brought some hostages home.

President Biden has sent an aid request to Congress that would send $100 million to Israel and money to Ukraine, but talks on a possible additional package have not yet resulted in legislation.
The State Department also twice circumvented Congress to approve provisions authorizing arms transfers to Israel. The move has upset some Democratic supporters who have criticized the government for not passing Congress through its push to calm the violence in Gaza.
