Black and Hispanic Voters Fleeing Democratic Party in Growing Numbers

Democrats are losing support among Black and Hispanic voters who are challenging President Joe Biden’s re-election bid, according to a poll released Wednesday.

Among black Americans who identify their political affiliation, the Democratic Party’s lead over Republicans has declined by nearly 20 percent in just three years, according to reports. gallup survey.

Democrats’ lead among Hispanic adults and adults ages 18 to 29 also declined by about the same amount, leaving the party with only a slight advantage as it prepares for the challenges of the 2024 campaign.

Gallup found that this loss was only partially offset by a small increase in the number of college-educated Americans, with or without a college degree, and outlined the details:

  • Democrats’ significant lead over Republicans among black Americans has shrunk by nearly 20 points over the past three years.
  • Democrats’ lead among Hispanic adults and adults ages 18 to 29 has declined in much the same way, resulting in Democrats maintaining only a small advantage among both groups.
  • Democrats were on par with Republicans in men until 2009, and Republicans on par with non-college-educated adults until 2019, but both groups are now in the red.

“These changes in the party affiliations of major subgroups mean that Democrats went from enjoying a substantial lead over Republicans from 2012 to 2021 to 2022,” the research firm said in a statement accompanying the study. “It provides the demographic context for how it slipped into a slight deficit in 2023.”

“Twenty-seven percent of U.S. adults identify as Democrats, and 43% identify as Democrats or lean Democratic, both of which are all-time lows in Gallup trends.”

Gallup data comes from a comprehensive survey of 12,145 adults conducted in 2023. Overall, there is a margin of error of 1 percentage point.

However, for smaller groups, the margin of error is larger, between 2 and 4 percentage points.
