Blasts heard in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities amid mass missile strikes | Ukraine

Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched a missile attack on Kiev and other Ukrainian cities on Wednesday morning, killing one person in the south, while air defense systems were activated in the capital and several explosions were heard.

The Kyiv Post reported that two loud explosions were heard in the city center around 7 a.m., followed by at least two more 45 minutes later. One of the reporters heard the sounds of air defense equipment engaging multiple projectiles, and he witnessed one explosion in the air.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said air defense systems were activated and called on people to remain in shelters. He later said that medical workers were treating one victim in the capital’s Dnipro district.

Klitschko said two high-voltage lines in the capital were damaged by rocket fragments, causing power outages in some areas.

Further south, a missile attack in the city of Mykolaiv killed one person, damaged at least 20 residential buildings and injured others, Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevich said.

“Some homes have been damaged. About 20 of them are without roofs. Damage to the gas and water supply network is already being cleared by utility workers. There are also injuries. One person is hospitalized. Others were saved on the spot,” he wrote on Telegram, adding that the man who was hospitalized had died.

Oleh Sinevov, governor of northeastern Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, said Russian missiles hit non-residential infrastructure in the city of Kharkiv, the region’s administrative center.

All of Ukraine has been under an air raid warning since around 6 a.m. Wednesday, and the Ukrainian air force sent a telegram warning of the risk of a Russian missile attack.

Strikes were also reported in Nikolaev and Lviv regions
