Bodycam Footage of Newport Prosecutor’s Arrest
Bodycam footage obtained from the Newport Police Department reveals a dramatic encounter involving special aide Devon Flanagan. During the incident, Flanagan can be heard pleading with officers, urging them not to arrest her and referencing her role as a state prosecutor in an attempt to sway them.
“I’m an AG! I’m an AG!” she exclaimed while officers were trying to control her as she resisted their instructions. Just before being placed in the police car, she said, “You’ll regret this. You’ll regret it.” In an interesting twist, one of the officers remarked, “Good for you, I won’t give you sh-,” amidst the chaos.
Flanagan, during the bodycam recording, criticized the officers about their protocol. “I want the body camera to be off. The protocol is that you turn it off. That’s a citizen’s request to turn it off,” she stated. Another woman with her reinforced her legal standing by saying, “She knows, she’s a lawyer.” It’s a pretty tense exchange, to say the least.
On the night of August 14th, the Attorney General’s office confirmed that Flanagan was arrested for trespassing. Although they have acknowledged the incident, they haven’t signaled whether any disciplinary action will follow. A spokesperson indicated that the office is reviewing the situation, with expectations for resolution coming in the next few days. However, specifics related to human resources matters remain under wraps.
Flanagan, who has served in the Attorney General’s Office for around seven years, is known to work on cases related to criminal court appeals. Following her arrest, she faces charges of intentional trespassing and has been issued a subpoena. Additionally, another individual involved, identified as Veronica Hannan, reportedly faces charges for intentional trespassing, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.
