Body Found near Border in Texas Identified as U.S. Airman

The horribly mutilated body of a man hit by a train Tuesday near Del Rio, Texas, has been identified as an active-duty airman assigned to Laughlin Air Force Base. The body was discovered early in the morning after a train conductor called 911 to report that someone had been hit on the tracks. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the area just west of Del Rio, about 20 miles from the Air Force base.

As Breitbart Texas reported, law enforcement officials initially believed the dead may have been immigrants due to their proximity to the border. A law enforcement official familiar with the investigation told Breitbart Texas that initial belief was dispelled after evidence from the scene showed otherwise.

In a press statement released Thursday by a U.S. Air Force spokesperson, officials said the Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office notified security forces at Laughlin Air Force Base that a body had been found near a railroad off-base. Stated. The deceased was identified as an active duty Airman stationed at Laughlin Air Force Base.

“We tragically lost a member of the Air Force and the Laughlin family,” said Col. Kevin A. Davidson, 47th Flying Training Wing commander. “Our hearts and prayers are with his family and all those who knew him. Our first priority is to support the family, friends and loved ones who are suffering and grieving this loss. ”

Military officials said the names of the deceased will not be released until 24 hours after the airman’s next of kin has been notified. The cause of death remains under investigation by the Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office.

This air base is home to Air Force 47.th Flight Training Wing and 96th Air Force Reserve Flight Training Squadron. The base is operated under the Air Education and Training Command. The base, which has been in operation since 1943, is located just southeast of Del Rio and near the U.S.-Mexico border.
