Trump and Putin Meeting in Alaska: A Body Language Analysis
During a recent meeting at Elmendorf Richardson’s joint base in Alaska, President Trump displayed what a body language expert described as a “real connection” with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Dr. Beth Dawson noted that as Trump stepped off Air Force One, he seemed cautious, even looking down and holding onto the railing as he descended slowly. This cautious demeanor contrasted sharply with Putin’s approach.
“Putin appears to move down the steps with more energy and speed,” she observed, highlighting a noticeable difference in their body language.
Dawson pointed out that the gestures from both leaders indicated vigilance and a sense of self-defense. For instance, she remarked on Trump’s subtle movements, like pulling his jacket a bit closer, suggesting a desire for comfort and perhaps a bit of self-protection.
As the men prepared to greet each other, Dawson noted Putin’s “real smile,” indicating he was genuinely happy to meet Trump. She explained, “Putin stretched his arms toward Trump, while Trump kept his hand close to his body, which implies he was drawing Putin into his personal space.”
Other experts also commented on the chemistry observed during this meeting. Patty Anne Wood remarked that Trump’s smile and demeanor suggested he was comfortable and looking forward to the event. Wood noticed changes in Trump’s posture, which reflected confidence, noting his shoulders were back more than usual.
Judy James commented that Trump greeted Putin much like an A-list host would welcome a distinguished guest but altered his demeanor once they sat down. She mentioned that Trump’s serious expression and fidgeting with his fingertips suggested a shift to a more serious tone.
