Border Patrol Agents Assaulted During Deportation Activities in the Los Angeles Area

Border Patrol Agents in Greater Los Angeles Face Violent Attacks

Border Patrol agents in the Greater Los Angeles area have encountered hostility from local residents discontent with ongoing deportation efforts. Two separate incidents have been reported, one involving a driver who rammed into a Border Patrol vehicle, causing significant damage. On Friday, additional damage was inflicted when rocks were thrown, and tires were slashed.

The first incident unfolded around 3:00 PM on Friday in Bell, California, specifically on Atlantic Avenue. According to local police, a Jeep collided with an unmarked Border Patrol vehicle. Initial accounts suggest a child may have been caught up in the situation, prompting the need for emergency services.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that Border Patrol agents were under attack as a large group of citizens breached a traffic safety barricade. The statement from the Bell Police Department reported that agents were assaulted, and police vehicles were vandalized. In response, Officer Bell requested assistance from nearby law enforcement agencies, including those from Bell Gardens, Vernon, Huntington Park, Southgate, and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department.

The second incident was described by the Department of Homeland Security and occurred on Sloughson Avenue in Maywood, California. Here, a civilian driver is suspected of deliberately ramming into a Border Patrol vehicle. A mob gathered during this incident, damaging the agency vehicle by slashing its tires.

DHS reported that a driver believed to have intentionally struck a Border Patrol vehicle was arrested on charges of assault. This case has been forwarded to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for potential prosecution.

Gregory K. Bovino, the Chief Patrol Agent for Border Patrol, commented, stating that this level of lawlessness is increasingly prevalent in Los Angeles and emphasized that there are serious legal repercussions for such actions.

According to information from the Department of Homeland Security, there has been a notable rise in attacks on agency officials across the nation as the administration attempts to fulfill promises of extensive deportations. Data shows that assaults against ICE agents have surged by 500%.

DHS Deputy Director Tricia McLaughlin mentioned in a recent press release, “The Department of Homeland Security has released new data revealing that ICE law enforcement agencies face a 500% increase in assaults against them while conducting enforcement activities. This week, ICE officials endured dangerous situations, including being dragged for 50 yards by their vehicles while arresting illegal alien sex offenders.”
