Incident Involving Border Patrol Agents in Minneapolis
The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) has announced that the man shot and killed by Border Patrol agents in Minneapolis is identified as Alex J. Preti, a 37-year-old local resident.
Preti lost his life early Saturday during an immigration operation targeting Jose Huerta Chuma, an undocumented individual with a past of various offenses including assault and domestic battery.
According to officials, Preti approached a Border Patrol agent while armed with a 9mm handgun and “violently resisted” attempts to disarm him.
Despite immediate medical assistance at the scene, Preti was pronounced dead shortly after. AFGE stated that “many details remain unclear,” noting that while videos of the incident are circulating online, the claim that Preti was brandishing a weapon has not been conclusively confirmed by the available footage.
AFGE also mentioned uncertainty about whether the Border Patrol agent who fired the shot is among their members.
In a statement, AFGE leaders described the situation as “ongoing and extremely serious,” stressing the importance of not jumping to conclusions until all facts are known.
“One of our members lost his life today, and that alone is shocking. Our hearts are heavy and we are deeply devastated by this tragedy that has befallen our own members,” they said, urging calm and restraint in public responses.
