Boston taxpayers are compelled to fund the ‘Trans Period Pride’ event despite a $50 million budget shortfall.

Trans Period Pride Event Sponsored by Boston Taxpayers

On June 17th, MassNOW, in collaboration with the MA Trans Political Coalition, is set to host its third annual Trans Period Pride event. The goal is to raise awareness with activities that include discussions on menstrual equity and transmenstrual experiences, along with a catered dinner and complimentary period underwear for attendees.

This isn’t a small, privately-funded gathering. In fact, the LGBTQ+ Promotion Office under Democratic Mayor Michelle Wu is receiving around $1 million annually from the city budget specifically to sponsor this event. Consequently, Boston taxpayers are essentially footing the bill, which is a bit concerning given the city’s looming budget deficit of nearly $50 million.

Recently, Blaze TV host Allie Beth Stuckey reacted to this event and expressed her confusion over whom the event is really catering to. She wondered aloud whether they’re addressing women who identify as men but still menstruate, or perhaps those claiming a menstrual cycle through hormone treatment without the organ capability. It raises questions, doesn’t it? Allie suggested the attendees might represent a mix of individuals, possibly feeling a bit bewildered about their identities.

She described the situation with a blend of humor and dismay, calling it “funny but sad.” But this isn’t the only peculiar expenditure from taxpayer funds. Back in April, Mayor Wu’s Office of Immigrant Advancement collaborated with OUTnewcomers for the “Affiliation Problem” Program. This initiative aimed to offer low-income LGBTQ+ immigrants wellness vouchers for services like yoga and massages, which drew significant public backlash, leading to a quick suspension of the program.

In a tongue-in-cheek manner, Allie pointed out the absurdity of prioritizing period underwear and yoga classes for queer asylum seekers while the city grapples with a considerable budget deficit. It’s worth considering, isn’t it? To catch her full thoughts on Pride Month 2026, check out the video above.
