Active Shooter and Wildfire Incident in Idaho

Authorities are currently responding to an active shooter situation alongside a wildfire in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Reports indicate that several firefighters were attacked during this crisis.

During a press conference, Cootenai County Sheriff Robert Norris stated that at least two individuals are confirmed dead, and there’s a possibility that a firefighter has also been killed. He remarked that they are still facing “active sniper fire” as he spoke.

“We have two deaths confirmed now. The total number of casualties is still unknown,” Norris emphasized. “Civilians are still evacuating from the mountain, and there might be some who are stuck or in shock. It’s a very confusing situation.”

The governor of Idaho has requested that residents pray for the safety of firefighters engaged in this incident.

“We are not certain who the suspects are, or even how many there might be,” Norris mentioned.

A spokesperson from Northern Lakes Fire Protection confirmed to Fox News Digital that the active shooter situation is connected to an ongoing wildfire. The Cootenai County Sheriff’s Office had issued a warning earlier in the afternoon about the shooter in Canfield Mountain, indicating that an injury had been reported, though the extent of it remains unclear. They advised people to avoid the area.

Firefighters were responding to a brush fire near the Netriston Gulch road when the shooting broke out. Due to the danger, they were forced to retreat, and the brush fire still presents a threat. Authorities are urging local residents to stay alert as the situation evolves.

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino stated that the agency is at the scene to offer “tactical and operational support,” describing it as an “active scene.”

Governor Brad Little addressed the event via a post on X, saying, “Several heroic firefighters have been attacked today while responding to the Northern Idaho fire. This is a brutal, direct assault on our courageous firefighters. I urge all Idahoans to pray for them and their families while we await further information. As the situation continues to unfold, please keep clear of the area to allow law enforcement and firefighters to do their jobs.”
