Father of Blue Jays Reliever Passes Away
Normand Fisher, the father of Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Braydon Fisher, passed away on Monday at 65 while the team was in California.
During a game against the San Francisco Giants, Norm, who was originally from Vanden, California, was visiting an old high school friend. Sadly, he suffered a stroke on his way back to the city.
Braydon, who has been on the bereavement list since his father’s death, shared heartfelt memories about his “amazing” father on Wednesday.
“He was a great guy,” Braydon said. “His name was Norm, and there was never a bad day for him.” He reminisced about his father’s cheerful disposition and dedication to helping others. Norm took pride in everything he did.
Having served as an officer in the Air Force for eight years, he was also a dedicated supporter of both the Blue Jays and his son, who is currently playing his second season in the MLB.
Braydon recalled how his father loved baseball, stating, “When he was a kid, if there was a score, it would be on the TV. He adored the game and was almost always seen in Blue Jays gear.” It was, quite honestly, a constant sight.
“He has always supported me in every way,” Braydon shared. “He did everything he could to ensure I achieved a dream I had from age five.” Braydon, 25, acknowledged his father’s baseball background while also giving credit to his mother for the family’s athletic genes.
With a slight chuckle, Braydon mentioned how his dad loved to boast about baseball skills, often lightheartedly reminding him of it. He thanked the Blue Jays for their support during this difficult time.
Braydon expressed his gratitude toward the Blue Jays organization, noting, “They arranged flights and hotel accommodations, allowing me all the time I needed and sending thoughtful messages.” He’s expected to return during the series against the San Diego Padres. Last season, he made an impressive debut and has become a reliable pitcher for the team.
In the previous season, Braydon achieved a 7-0 record with a 2.70 ERA across 52 games, striking out 62 batters in 50 innings. This season, he maintained a 3-3 record and a 3.33 ERA in 43 games, continuing to play a crucial role in the team’s bullpen.
