Brazilian influencer Melissa Said apprehended after search for allegedly operating a drug trafficking ring.

A Brazilian influencer known for her bikini photos has been captured and is facing serious charges related to a drug trafficking and money laundering network.

Melissa Said, who boasts over 340,000 followers on Instagram, had been evading authorities since a police operation targeted several of her residences in Bahia, Brazil. Reports indicate that she was seen as the central figure in an organization dealing in marijuana and laundering the proceeds.

The 23-year-old was implicated in the illegal smuggling of drugs in both Bahia and São Paulo. Police managed to find her at a friend’s property after tracking her movements closely.

Authorities began to scrutinize Said back in 2024 following an incident at an airport where she was allegedly found with drugs and accused of giving tips to followers on how to avoid getting caught while transporting illegal substances. She also reportedly sold “kits” of marijuana on the streets.

The recent police action, dubbed “Operation Elva Afetiva” (which translates to “Weed Lovers”), is linked to a phrase she has used in her dealings. This operation didn’t just result in her arrest; three alleged accomplices were also taken into custody, one charged with drug trafficking after authorities seized 1.4 kilograms of potent marijuana.

In addition to that, police recovered 270 grams of hashish, several marijuana portions, digital scales, bags, cell phones, and cash cards, as well as two cars suspected to be involved in the drug operations.

Authorities have withheld the identity of the third individual who was detained.

Said, an advocate for marijuana legalization, was on the run until her capture. After initially avoiding arrest, she became a fugitive but was eventually detained.

“This operation aims to tackle drug trafficking, targeting digital influencers who may endorse criminal activities,” stated the head of the U.S. Drug Trafficking Prevention and Suppression Agency.

“She not only promoted drug use but was also engaged in selling and distributing drugs, with connections to suppliers in São Paulo.”

Investigations into her alleged drug activities are still ongoing.

If found guilty, she could face a potential sentence of up to 25 years in prison.

It’s reported that she is set to meet with legal counsel and undergo a forensic examination before a custody hearing.

In her most recent Instagram post from October 2, she touched on the topic of legal marijuana while seemingly smoking a joint.

Furthermore, it was noted that Said was previously married to influencer Tachio Bachelard, who tragically died in a bicycle accident in October 2023.
