Brazilian Police Identify Bomb Attack Suspect at Lady Gaga Concert as Non-Citizen Deported from the U.S. Last Month

Brazilian officials have reported the apprehension of a suspect connected to a planned attack during a Lady Gaga concert. This individual, identified as 44-year-old Luis da Silva, had previously been deported from the U.S. during a campaign by the Trump administration. Allegedly, he had intentions to carry out terrorist acts during the performance at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, which was expected to draw around 2.5 million fans.

According to investigations, da Silva had intended to plant explosives near the stage while voicing disturbing beliefs about the artist. Officer Felipe Culi from Rio’s Civil Police stated that da Silva claimed Gaga was a Satanist and alleged that she would perform rituals during the concert that would involve harming children.

An ongoing investigation is looking into the specifics of why da Silva was deported. Alongside him, a 17-year-old suspect, who was found with materials related to child sexual abuse, was also taken into custody just hours before the concert commenced.

Authorities have indicated that both suspects are part of broader online networks known for promoting hate and violence, specifically targeting youth and encouraging harmful behaviors. Rio Police Secretary Felipe Curie suggested that the suspects seemed to be aiming at the Brazilian LGBTQ community, though more details about their affiliations weren’t clear.

Rio Police Chief Luis Lima explained that the group was involved in publishing violent and hateful content online, with goals of gaining notoriety and recruiting followers. Da Silva was arrested on charges related to weapon possession, while the teenager is facing accusations tied to the child sexual abuse materials. It remains uncertain what the teenager’s exact role was in the attack plan. However, there were indications they intended to use improvised explosives and Molotov cocktails during the concert.

In a related development, police in San Vicente revealed that a 16-year-old, connected to da Silva’s network, had faced an attack on his home. This teenager claimed his role involved creating online profiles and attracting other like-minded individuals, but he denied any intention to participate in the bombing plot.
